Born out of a passion project, Nadine Bubner and I took the South China Seas in 2013 to stand up paddle board yoga on our own. We loved it so much we decided over a cup of tea that we would take our practice off the mat and onto the water. We wanted to create a community of students who wanted space to breathe and move and called it a Day-Treat (instead of a retreat) right in our own backyard of Hong Kong.
If yoga is a union of the mind, body and spirit, practicing on the water makes that union effortless. Being on the water requires complete presence in what you’re doing and the mind moves the body to connect deeper with the spirit of mother nature.
Nadine is an avid runner and triathlon athlete; with the rigorous exercise from running, cycling and swimming she found yoga a haven for both body and mind. This sun shining ray out of Berlin,Germany, has been practicing yoga for 9 years and teaching for the last 5 years. She’s recently become an iron man coach too and leading a group to Nepal for the second time to Everest Base Camp all for a greater cause. Needless to say, she inspires me!
As SUP YOGA HK was born out of a love for yoga and the water, we encourage all our students to pick up trash on the beaches and on the waters while they’re out. We also love to end our season each year with the annual HK Clean Up. Check out my post on 5 ways to being green and save!
We’re now an affiliate SUP YOGA School under the Academy of Surf Instructors, a globally recognized organization that Nadine and I first trained with in Bondi, Sydney, Australia back in 2014.
All of our instructors have the following qualifications –
- 200HR Yoga teacher training
- SUP YOGA Certification
- ASI Water Rescue Certification
- CPR&First Aid
